"Dzīvo un dejo Latvija", Folk Daina concert.

This 7th november, Valmiera´s Cultural Center received an event about latvian folk dance and music (with some hues I´ll explain as I keep telling the article).
The group "Gauja" made the performance of several folk dances and performances of several latvian songs, including reading poems (a total of six) about Latvia, its land, its people and its traditions (or as we could summarize altogether: the atmosphere of Latvia). Well, in general terms, they performed what it´s called a Daina (several ones): a typical baltic form of poetry and music mix together and where people and gender dance mixed together as well, where the vocal themes are usually land and pagan (this means not religious) but it can vary even for telling more naughty themes . It´s needed to say what a Daina is due only baltic people know what is exactly a Daina...well, not even that...ahem... estonians.
A total of 21 folk dancing performances and 6 poems where shown in this warming show, with the dancers wearing a varied of typical latvian clothes making movements on pairs, mostly, due the folk performance was basically couple or groups dances (good to practise couple dancing movements, by the way, for some other personal purporses) but there were some stellar solo dances as well, as introduction for the incoming group dance.
Clothes, as I said, were folk and typica ones, with capes, long skirts and circle hats (or by default, long ties in the hair) for women and handsome suits for men, which varied in between folk and villager suits to something more "dandyesque" and  early XX century smokings or even official jackets (from the same age).

To make you a better idea about this event, here are the photos of this concert!
First performance. Each photo is a different one, you will notice it by the dancers are wearing different outfits. Also, notice that the hats the women are wearing appear in most of the performances but with different colours, is that or a tie in their ponytail.

Poem time! A total of six folk poems about the land were told in the same way (a boy and a girl reading lines). How beautiful you are, Latvia!

Dance Nº2

All the dances had most of the part a couple dance interchanging dancers in between each couple.

Solo dance example, showing a villager dancing crossing the forest...

...and then, gathering with more dancers.

We call this "El corro de la patata" in Spain...but I assume that this is something very different, as well is a Daina not a game.

A last multitudinous dance made on group.

The last movement.

Ending the performance.

All the crew on scene. Ending photo.
